Monorails, Davits and Gantries

We have delivered structural engineering design for a range of lifting and material handling systems, including monorail beams, gantries, and davit arm structures, for industrial clients such as Longveld and other fabrication and manufacturing facilities across New Zealand. These systems are typically installed within industrial plants, processing facilities, and workshops to support safe lifting, maintenance access, and operational handling of equipment. Our scope has included the structural analysis and design of monorail support beams, gantry frames, davit arm structures, and their associated connections and foundations. Designs were undertaken to accommodate hoist loads, dynamic lifting effects, impact factors, and lateral stability requirements, while ensuring compatibility with the existing building structure or support frames. We also designed steel columns, brackets, and bracing systems where required to safely transfer loads into the primary structure or foundations. Services provided included engineering calculations, detailed structural drawings, connection detailing, and coordination with fabricators to ensure constructability and compliance with New Zealand structural design standards. Where required, we also supported building consent documentation and provided engineering inspections during installation to verify that the lifting support structures were constructed in accordance with the design and suitable for the intended operational loads.
